Posted by Mili on January 17, 2024 at 10:52 amHow do you create an inclusive environment that encourages and celebrates various languages of expression, such as art, music, movement, and other creative forms, to better support children’s development, sense of identity, and self-esteem?

Celebrate different cultures and do activities that the children will enjoy. At circle time discuss the theme for the day and make it exciting by showing them pictures or videos. Read and story and show them pictures. A visit to the local library. Get involved in children different languages.

To create an inclusive environment celebrating diverse forms of expression:
Embrace Cultural Diversity: Incorporate art, music, and stories from various cultures into the curriculum.
Support Multilingualism: Encourage children to express themselves in their preferred languages and provide resources in multiple languages.
Offer Varied Creative Outlets: Provide diverse materials for art, music, and movement activities to accommodate different interests and abilities.
Ensure Accessibility: Adapt activities to ensure all children can participate and feel included, regardless of ability or background.
Celebrate Every Child: Acknowledge and celebrate each child’s unique talents and contributions to foster a sense of belonging and self-esteem.
Engage Families: Invite families to share their cultural traditions and creative expressions, creating a rich tapestry of experiences within the learning environment. -
In our service we celebrate all cultures in the environment and nationalities as society is changing we need to keep up do date so we use words from different nationalities displayed on the wall such as basic words like hello, how are you. We encourage inclusive in our environment with materials such as books, pictures of the world on the wall, flags ,dollies from different countries. The staff have to keep up to date with CPD training, I have done the LINC programme and found it interesting learning from other services sharing knowledge. In doing Lamh you can use it with children who’s English is not their first language so they understand also with the friends and it works very well.
We do invite parents to come in and share their profession with the children so the children learn about their families life and the work the parents do. Some children bring in food from their own country so at snack time the children do ask “what is that” food to the child which is building on communication while the children learn about there friends culture. Some all children is included in the service and parents daily even if a parent does not speak English can text her and she uses google translation to understand the conversation. We are trying to make is an enjoyable experience for the children and parents to have easy access to information and been kept up to date with information. -
